Tour Planning
Regardless of tour, region, we recommend staying in Louisville! It’s centrally located, packed with great attractions (like amazing bourbon bars and Churchill Downs!), and makes it easy for us to transport you to any of the three tour regions. If you prefer not to stay in Louisville, we do ask that you book accommodations within your chosen tour region—like Lexington for a Lexington tour.
If you’re not sure where to stay, we’re happy to help with recommendations for hotels, bed & breakfasts, or Airbnbs. We’re even able to share discounts at select hotels, just ask our team!
The restaurant will be chosen based off the region and distilleries selected. Once we have locked in the distilleries, we will send you a menu of the chosen restaurant with lunch options to pre-select to ensure a timely experience at the restaurant. The price of your meal is included for all guests as part of the tour, but additional purchases such as alcohol will be your responsibility and need to be paid for on-site.
More than 30 days out from the tour date: Tours that cancel 31+ days in advance are eligible for a 75% refund.
Less than 30 days until the tour: Tours that cancel within 30 days of tour dates are not eligible for a refund but can be credited a gift card for future bookings.
Kentucky Bourbon Boys understands that emergencies may arise and we will discuss with guests on a case-by-case basis.
Most of our custom tours last about 8-9 hours, with pickup between 8:30-9am and drop off between 5-6pm. Specific tour times will be determined and shared with the guests after booking. Most distillery tours are about 75 minutes in length, including the tasting.
If you’d like to plan a shorter tour, please let our team know at booking and we can work with you to plan the perfect (shorter) day.
We can accommodate for all accessibility needs, just ask when you’re booking!
We recommend booking at least three months ahead of when you plan to visit. This allows us a better chance to secure admissions at all of the distilleries on your wishlist. For Kentucky Derby Week, we recommend booking as soon as possible.
The cost of your tour covers all planning, transportation (we will pick you up at your hotel, Airbnb, or home), admissions for two distillery tours and a third stop for tasting, lunch, snacks, water bottles, and the services of a KBB guide for the day!
Our Signature Custom Tour includes visits to 3 distilleries. This includes admissions for tours and tastings at 2 distilleries and admissions for a tasting at the 3rd.
As always though, our tours are completely custom, so if you’d like to visit more or less, or book tours for multiple days, contact us!
Tours are priced differently based on the type of tour chosen, day of the week and any stop swaps (replacing a distillery for a horse farm, etc), but pricing for our Signature 3-Distillery Custom Tour can be found in our Pricing Guide. For exact pricing for other tour types, check out our booking page and select your tour type and dates or reach out to our team!
We can! While all of our tours include private transportation to and from all stops and where our guests are staying, we can also provide transport on other days of your trip or to / from the airport. Simply ask our team when you book.
Likewise, if you have already booked all your own distillery tours, but are just in need of transportation to and from, we are happy to help!
We do! We are so grateful for the current and former service members of our country, and in fact, one of our owners is a veteran himself. Please mention you are an active service member or veteran to our team when you are booking so they can apply the proper rate.
Yes! All of our tours are customizable. We have many options if you’d like to expand your tour outside of distilleries alone – including breweries, wineries, even horse farms or a bourbon chocolate tasting! Our booking team will be able to share what options are available within your chosen region.
Yes and no. We actually recommend everyone stay in Louisville regardless of their tour region as it’s centrally located and there is so much to do (hello bourbon bars and Churchill Downs!) We are able to easily transport guests from Louisville to any of the three different regions, but if you don’t want to stay in Louisville, we require guests to stay in their chosen region, i.e. staying in Lexington if you’re touring in Lexington.
If you have questions about lodging you have already booked or aren’t sure where to stay, ask us! We have tons of recommendations for different accommodations in the area be it hotels, bed & breakfasts or Airbnbs. We can even share discounts for some hotels!
Preparing For Your Tour
Of course! Some distilleries may have parts of the tour they ask you not to photograph but they will let you know beforehand.
Our drivers are also happy to take photos of your group on the vehicle or outside the distilleries, just ask!
You can purchase KBB items in advance of your tour on our site, and we will have them available when we pick you up on the day of your tour! Should you want an item shipped, simply contact us!
Kentucky distilleries (along with wineries and breweries) are currently able to ship directly to in-state residents, as well as states with reciprocal agreements (currently Alaska, Arizona, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, and Rhode Island, plus Washington, D.C.).
If you can’t ship directly to your home and wish to fly with bottles you’ve purchased, the TSA allows alcoholic beverages with more than 24% but not more than 70% alcohol in checked bags up to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) per passenger provided they are in unopened retail packaging. Alcoholic beverages with 24% alcohol or less are not subject to limitations in checked bags.
Many distilleries have cocktail bars with limited options for guests. If you would like to allow time to make this part of your tour experience, let us know when booking.
For groups of 1-14, you’ll be in one of our KBB raised-roof vans or in a KBB shuttle. Groups of 15 or more will be transported in an executive shuttle or motor coach, or split between two or more KBB vehicles.
For the enjoyment of all tour guests, we do not allow smoking or e-cigs on our tour vehicles. Some distilleries provide a designated smoking area, but many are non-smoking facilities. If unsure, ask.
Yes, most distilleries ask to see a driver’s license or passport for each guest. Active duty military and veterans may show ID for discounts at some distilleries — and we’ll pass that savings along to you when you book!
You are allowed to bring a small cooler with your own beverages in the vehicle, but we ask that you Enjoy Responsibly so that you do not impact the safety or enjoyment of others. We will also note that you are visiting working facilities and the distilleries will not tolerate unruly behavior on the tours, and behaving otherwise risks being asked to leave the tour or facility.
Comfortable shoes for walking are recommended. Closed-toe shoes are required for the ISC Barrel Factory tour. You will be outside during portions of most tours, so dress accordingly to be comfortable.
